58 New DOST Scholars in ARMM signed a contract

Fifty-eight new DOST scholars signed a contract in different provinces of ARMM. These are the passers of DOST RA 7687, DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program and Project GREAT-M. Two qualifiers in Maguindanao signed a contract last May 21, 2018; 32 qualifiers signed a contract last May 24, 2018, in Lanao del Sur; three qualifiers in Basilan signed a contract last May 30, 2018; two passers signed a contract last May 31, 2018, in Sulu and two passers in Tawi-Tawi, respectively.
There are a total of 32 qualifiers who passed the examination for RA 7687; 15 qualifiers for DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship program and 11 qualifiers for Project GREAT-M, a total of 58 new qualifiers. These students from different provinces of ARMM submitted requirements before the contract signing and was oriented about the privileges and obligations of the scholarship program. New scholars will benefit from the scholarship privileges granted by DOST-SEI. During the regular academic year, students will receive tuition allowance based on the Statement of Account not to exceed P40, 000.00, book allowance worth P10, 000, a transportation expenses, clothing allowance, monthly living allowance at P7, 000.00 per month, group health and accident insurance and graduation allowance to be released during the last semester or term of the program of study.
Scholars should meet the required maintaining grades to continually enjoy the privileges of the program.
The Republic Act No. 7687, also known as the “Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994”, provides for scholarships to talented and deserving students whose families’ socio-economic status do not exceed the set cut-off values of certain indicators. Qualifiers must pursue priority fields of study in the basic sciences, engineering, other applied sciences, and science and mathematics teaching.
The DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program, formerly known as the NSDB or NSTA Scholarship under RA No. 2067, is awarded to students with high aptitude in science and mathematics and are willing to pursue careers in the fields of science and technology.
The Project Grant for Educational Assistance on Technology and Science Teaching Courses in Mindanao (GREAT-M) scholarships are provided to qualified underprivileged college students in Mindanao to ensure that they finish tertiary education.
S&T Undergraduate Scholarships Program aims to stimulate and entice talented Filipino youths to pursue lifetime productive careers in science and technology and ensure a steady, adequate supply of qualified S&T human resources which can steer the country towards national progress. It is also for the pursuance of a priority program in the field of science, technology, engineering or mathematics leading to a Bachelor of Science degree.
